Franz Marc (1880 – 1916) was born in Germany.  He was a key German expressionist who would in 1930 be known by the Nazis as a degenerate artist.

His art is bright and full of colour in his mature years his art mostly depicted animals. He painted the ‘Two Cats, Blue and Yellow’ in 1912.  The original painting was oil on a canvas 74 x 98cm.  It is now located at the Kunstmuseum Basel, Basel, Switzerland.
